George born in 1894 and was a labourer in a woodyard. He married Doris May Botham at Crich in1924. In 1939, the family were living at Parkhead, and George worked as a colliery hewer.

News has been received by Mr and Mrs George Yates, Causeway lane, Crich, that their eldest son, Pte. George Yates, has been wounded. Pte. Yates writing from a hospital in Bimingham, to which he was brought from France, states he has been wounded in the right arm.
