Edward Woodward in WW1

Notes
Ernest Woodward worked in the Warehouse at Lea Mills and he joined the forces on 11 January 1918. He was aged eighteen years when he left to join the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve. He was the son of George Woodward, the village policeman, and had worked with Mr Dawes in the Warehouse. The Company sent him groceries in September 1918 but there is no record of an acknowledgement. One ledger records that he was discharged from the forces before 28th August 1919 and another records that he had applied to return before 28th January of that year. All the indications are that he returned to the Mill after the War
