John Adam Radford worked in the Factory and left for service in the forces on 29th October 1915. He took the usual route of being assigned initially to 3/5th Notts and Derby Regt before being posted to the Sherwood Foresters. Pte J.Radford No 31970 D Coy 19th Sherwood Foresters. He went for training to the North Camp at Ripon.
He sailed for France in November 1916 and his name, rank and number were then given as: Pte John A. Radford 269230, 14th Platoon, D. Coy, 7th Battalion, Robin Hoods, Sherwood Foresters.
