Notes
George registered for enlistment 9 December 1915 but was not medically examined until 5 January 1917 when an old fracture of his elbow was discovered.
Lea Mills requested an exemption for him but this was refused and he briefly joined the Foresters before being transferred to the Royal Engineers in July 1917 aged thirty-four. As his army record show he was wounded and spent some time in hospital.
