Durham Light Infantry 99811 3rd Battalion

He had a serious cycle accident at Wigwell on 12 September 1915 when a cart knocked him down causing serious injuries. Despite the severity of his injuries he was still enlisted on 31 July 1916. He applied for exemption in March 1917 but this was turned down. Eventually his disability was such that he was declared unfit for service and was discharged with the Silver War Badge awarded to him.
