Frederick Buckley joined the forces on 1st November 1916 aged twenty-four. He lived in Cromford and his name appears on the Cromford Roll of Honour.
L/Cpl. Frederick Buckley 82770 Right Wing Coy. M.G. School (Machine Gun), Harrowby Camp, Grantham. He seems to have been then attached to A. Coy. 3rd Sherwood Foresters at Belton Park.
He lived at Mason's Opening in Cromford in the 1920s and probably before this. Fred married Ethel Britland (sister of Frederick Britland) in Q2 of 1914,

I now have the pleasure in answering your parcel which I am pleased to say I recieved  quite safe, it was very kind of you to send it, the contents were lovely. You will have to excuse me for not writing before I was away from the company when it arrived, so I got it when I came back. I hope everything at the mill is going smoothly wishing I was again with you, I am pleased to tell you I am still in good health & I hope all at Lea Green are the same I will conclude again thanking you for your kindness I wish you all the best of luck as I remain

Dear Sir
I am writing these few lines to you, to thank you gratefully, for the parcel which I received quite safe, & I don’t know how to thank you enough for it, only I am very sorry I have not answered it before now. But ever since last Monday we have been moving about. We went to Harrowly Camp at Grantham on Tuesday, & came up here on Wednesday, but with being strange to the place, I did not find my way about, so I want you to excuse me for not writing, I hope these few lines will find you in the best of health & all at Lea Green and I hope the mills are running as smooth as when I was with you, just remember me to Mr C A Gregory, well Sir, I shall have to conclude my short letter in haste thanking you again for the parcel which was very kind of you to send, and all the others so I remain yours very truly
