He attested at Lea Mills on 2 September 1915 aged 19 years and 2 months; a hosiery warehouse man. Father was Albert William Brown; mother Hannah Brown; brother William Brown aged 28 serving with the 104th Brigade of the R.F.A.; sisters Mrs H Pritchard aged 25 of Derby, Ethel Brown aged 20 of Holloway and Ada Brown aged 13 of Holloway. His parents lived at Little London, Holloway.
Arthur was 5 ft 5in tall, had a fresh complexion with blue eyes and fair hair. He was C of E.
He entered France on 4 March 1916 and was killed on 17 April 1916.

Many of the inmates of Langensalza camp were set to work in the salt mines.
Notes
Charles Brown joined the forces on 1st September 1916 aged twenty-one.
Lea mills records show him as Gunner Charles Brown 168011 134 Battery, 32 Brigade, 4th Division Royal Field Artillery, British Expeditionary Force, France. Subsequently, his address is given as C. Coy. R.A. Collecting Station, Hipswell Camp, Catterick, Yorkshire with the note ‘in hospital’ attached.
A note against the January 23rd 1918 record of despatch describes him as ‘prisoner of war’
