Notes
In March 1917 Lea Mills made a case for his deferral for six months. He made a personal appeal to the Exemptions Tribunal but this was dismissed. However, it was ruled that he could not be recruited for at least 28 days. He joined the forces on 28th February 1918 when he was aged thirty-two.
In 1916 the 2/1 Westmorland and Cumberland Yeomanry was converted to a cyclist regiment. In 1918 many of the cyclists had moved to Lincolnshire.
