Lieutenant
Biography
Leopold was born on 8 December 1883 in Crich and baptised in the parish church on 20 March 1884. He married Kate Anderton on 26 Aug 1909 at St Marylebone, London, and they had one daughter, Mary. The family variously lived at "Westholme", Station Road, Harrow and 50, High Street, Harrow -in-the-Hill. His wife Kate died in March 1935. He died on 28 May 1860 and was buried 2 Jun 1960 at Kensington and Chelsea.
In 1916 he applied for a military exemption on the grounds of the need to care for his young daughter and frail wife.
Case Number: M1277.
Leopold John Saxton of Westholme Station Road, Harrow. Occupation: Lithographic Artist and Printer's Representative.
Grounds of Appeal:
A: On the ground that it is expedient in the national interests that the man should, instead of being employed in military service, be engaged in other work in which he is habitually engaged.
D: On the ground that serious hardship would ensue if the man were called up for Army service, owing to his exceptional financial or business obligations or domestic position.
This was turned down although he obtained one month's exemption.
