Born in 1887, Charles was the son of Crich barber William Martin and his wife Mary Ann. In 1910 he married Alice Briddon and moved to Pinxton where he worked as a pit banksman.He died in August 1970 aged eighty-three.

Mr C.W.Martin – The funeral conducted by the Rev. L.W.Daffurn , took place at Boythorpe Cemetery on Monday of Mr Charles Walter Martin who died at the Woodlands Home, Inkersall, aged 83 years. Although the Martin family live in Crich, Mr Martin was born in Boythorpe and lived in Brampton at 1 Red Row for 59 years. A widower for nine years , Mr Martin leaves two sons, one daughter, one adopted son, nine grandchildren and 15 great grand-children.
